BEST Tiger Sauce Recipe (Spicy Sauce Perfect for Dipping!) (1)

If you know me, you know I am the queen of condiments. I can’t have a side of fries without some sort of homemade ketchup to dip them in. And none of my sandwiches are complete without slathering on some sort of sauce.

That’s where this Tiger Sauce recipe idea came from. Everyone immediately thinks of horseradish when they think of roast beef sandwiches. But when I made some the other night, I really wanted to try something a little different.

I wanted a creamy sauce kind of like my creamy horseradish sauce, but with a little different flavor profile. I swapped the sour cream for mayo and simplified the ingredients to cater to what I had on hand. And voila! The best experience ever.

What's In This Post

What is Tiger Sauce

This sauce is a quick and easy condiment that is made with ingredients you probably already have on hand. That’s the best part of this sauce- it’s so easy!

A spicy blend of ingredients, Tiger Sauce is a simple condiment that can be used on so many things from beef sandwiches to a dipping sauce.

You might have seen it at pit beef stands at barbecue festivals or fairs. The horseradish really pairs well with beef, which is what it is most commonly served with.

Ingredients

  • Mayonnaise – The base of this sauce is creamy, and mayonnaise helps us to achieve that factor. Use your favorite brand or you can even make your own.
  • Prepared horseradish – Horseradish is what gives this creamy sauce it’s heat. The best part is, you can control the heat by adding either more or less horseradish.
  • Apple cider vinegar – Although mayonnaise has a slight tang to it, apple cider vinegar provides even more tang and flavor as well.
  • Ground black pepper – I like to grind my own pepper, but feel free to use the pre-ground store bought pepper.
  • Coarse kosher salt – Just a touch of salt helps to bring out all of the flavors of the other ingredients.

Variations

Tiger sauce alternatives are endless, but here are a view ideas to get you thinking:

  • Creamy base – If you aren’t a big fan of mayonnaise, you can replace it with sour cream instead. You could even use half mayo and half sour cream if you’d like.
  • Control the spice – I love how you can control the spice level of this sauce. The original tiger sauce is made with horseradish, but you can add more or less depending on how spicy you want it. You could also have a cayenne pepper base or use chili peppers or crushed red peppers instead for a different flavor.
  • Extra kick of flavor – To add an extra kick of flavor to your hot sauce, try adding a squeeze of lemon juice, fresh garlic or even garlic powder for a whole new flavor experience. Lemon juice also helps preserve freshness.

Storage and Freezing

This tiger sauce recipe will hold up well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about one to two weeks. When you’re ready to use it again, just give it a quick stir before using.

This sauce does not freeze well.
