Grapes. Green, red, it doesn’t matter. My kids are OBSESSED.

When it comes to fruit purchases in our home, they come in a close 2nd place to bananas. My kids eat them like candy and consider them to be one of the best things in life. For us, they are usually a snack or side dish with a light lunch or dinner. But, there’s even so much more you can do with grapes and I’m excited to share one of the yummiest ideas with you:Grape Crostini Appetizer with Blue Cheese Spread and Honey.

This past year, I bought The Flavor Bible. It doesn’t have recipes, but you could definitely consider it a “cookbook”. It reads like a dictionary, with an alphabetical list of ingredients. Each listing tells you what goes with that ingredient, such as what compliments it and how you can increase the flavor of the dish. If you like getting creative in the kitchen, this book IS A MUST. I use it more than any other cookbook in my kitchen.

I was researching grapes in The Flavor Bible,and I noticed that blue cheese paired well with grapes. I LOVE blue cheese. But, I had no clue that it complimented grapes so well. Sure, I’ve seen grapes beautifully placedon many cheese trays, but I didn’t make the blue cheese and grape connection until I saw it in The Flavor Bible.

With autumn almost here, I decided this would be the perfect time to create an easy fall appetizer idea. Something that would serve well for autumn-themed parties or Thanksgiving dinner.

To make this Grape Crostini Appetizer with Blue Cheese Spread and Honey, you’ll first slice French baguettes into slices. These are placed on a baking sheet and brushed with olive oil. Then, pop them intothe oven until they are nice and toasty.

While the baguette slices are toasting, you’ll whip up a delicious spread. The blue cheese crumbles are combinedwith mascarpone(Italian cream cheese) and blended up with a hand mixer. PEOPLE! This. Is. Delicious. Stuff. Seriously.

Of course, for this Grape Crostini recipe, you’ll need grapes.Take your red grapes and cut theminto quarters, lengthwise. You’ll need about 1 1/2 grapes per crostini, giving you 6 pieces per costini.

If your baguette was wider than mine,you’ll possibly want 2 grapes per slice to give you 8 pieces per crostini.

Once the baguette slices are toasted, they are removed from the oven and allowed to cool a bit. Then, top each slice with theblue cheesespread. Put them back into the oven for a few minutes until the cheese spread melts.

Once the melted cheese baguette slices come out of the oven, top them with your sliced grapes. I love the colors of these — so greatfor a fall appetizer.

To finish, a drizzle of honey is added. Don’t skip this part — the grapes, blue cheese, and mascarpone pair deliciouslywith honey and creates the oh so perfect bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces French baguettes (10.5 each)
  • Olive Oil
  • 8 ounces Mascarpone cheese
  • 4 ounces blue cheese crumbles
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Red Grapes (approximately 40 grapes)
  • Honey

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Slice each baguette into approximately 20 slices. Lay slices on baking sheet and brush tops with olive oil. Bake for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned and toasted.
  3. While bread is toasting, create your blue cheese spread. Place mascarpone and blue cheese crumbles in a bowl and blend them together with a hand mixer on medium. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Set aside.
  4. Cut grapes in quarters, lengthwise. Set aside grapes.
  5. When the bread is toasted, remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Spread top of each bread with the blue cheese spread (about 1/2 – 1 tablespoon, depending on the size of bread). Place bread slices back into the oven to allow cheese to melt, about 3 minutes.
  6. Remove slices from oven and allow to cool slightly. Top with about 6 grape pieces. Drizzle with honey. Place on a plate or serving tray and serve immediately.

Notes

–If your bread slices are wider than mine, you may want to use more than 6 grape slices. Use your best judgment. If using more than 6 per slice, or more than 40 baguette slices, you will want to cut more than 40 grapes.
