The classic Hurricane co*cktail was created in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. During World War II, there was a shortage of whiskey and other spirits. Rum, on the other hand, was more readily available. To use up the excess rum, which was not as popular as whiskey at the time, the bartenders came up with the idea of creating new co*cktails. This led to the creation of co*cktails such as Hurricane and Mai Tai.
The co*cktail is named “Hurricane” because it is traditionally served in a glass shaped like a hurricane lamp. It’s typically made with rum, fruit juices (like orange juice, pineapple juice, and passion fruit juice), grenadine, simple syrup, and a splash of lime juice. If you want to make a non-alcoholic version of the Hurricane, you can simply omit the rum and replace it with lemon-lime soda or more fruit juice.

- 2 oz passion fruit juice
- 2 oz passion orange juice
- 2 oz pineapple juice
- 1 oz grenadine syrup

- Sparkling water
- Orange slices, for garnish
- Maraschino cherries, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1
